Murphy’s Misfits Charity Touch Rugby Tournament 2017 – The Outcome

_DSC9645

Misfits and friends,

this year’s Charity Touch Rugby Tournament is already history! It won’t be too much, if we say we are getting used to setting records every time. For another year we can clearly see a very positive trend. More players, more fans, more sponsors and above all – more funds collected for the charity cause.

We are happy to announce that we raised 3190 lev for ParaKids organization! A record amount for a Misfits event!

The funds will be added directly to ParaKids budget for buying a new all terrain wheelchair, which will be used by people with disabilities when they go on tourism and hiking. Every kid deserves the freedom to travel and experience nature’s beauties. To play and have fun with its friends!

What else can we say? Many new people were introduced to the sport of rugby trough the event. There was a kids rugby session that put a lot of smiles on kids faces. We made our most successful Facebook event reaching thousands of people, promoting the club and sharing our cause. And in the spirit of rugby everybody had lots of fun – no sore losers or cocky winners.

Thanks to all players and participants! Big thanks to all the media that helped us spread the word! Huge thanks to all the sponsors that helped our cause! Humongous thanks to all the volunteers and the club’s committee that organized everything!

Yes, you got that right.. it is time!

The club is delighted to announce this year’s Murphy’s Misfits Charity Touch Rugby Tournament, the XIVth one in a row. It is in the middle of the autumn and temperatures are falling, but the heat on the rugby pitch will be rising. Once more we will bring together players, fans and adventurers of all kinds for a full day of rugby and fun with a noble cause.

The cause

This year we chose to work with the ParaKids Organization and collect funds to support their great initiative. ParaKids work with children with disabilities, postural problems and obesity by offering swimming and ski classes, gymnastics and sports camps. Their goal is to acquire specialized equipment for adapted sport, with which children with disabilities will have an access to different types of sports activities. ParaKids, as well as the Misfits, firmly believe that every child is entitled to year-round access to games and sports among friends. Rugby being one of the most social and tolerant communities in the world is the perfect match for such cause.

Tournament organization

This year’s competing teams will be formed on the day with the exception of major sponsors that have the right to field their own premade lineups. During the registration phase, team captains appointed by the club will lead touch rugby turbo workshops in order to teach all newcomers the rules and the basics of our sport. At the same time, there will be kids rugby workshop with the ParaKids members and visitor kids.

Everyone is eligible for participation in the tournament no matter of rugby skill, fitness level, age or gender.  Due to safety reasons, there is a minimum age requirement – 12 yo (all underage participants must have an attendant).

Besides the tons of fun, every player will get a complimentary t-shirt with a special design. There will be a minimum entry fee of 15 lv. Please, keep in mind this is a charity event and 100% of your entry fee will be donated – the more the better.

Volunteers will serve foods and drinks around the venue and all the revenue will be donated, as well.

What We’ve Been Up To In 2017

Hey Misfits,

We’ve uploaded some photos from our games this season. They say better late than never… Let’s make a very short review of our highlights for the first half of 2017 here:

  • We organized and participated in the traditional game in celebration of Bulgarian Liberation day with the Sofia Barbarians RFC
  • We hosted and played 5 formidable touring teams from England
  • We prevailed in a hard battle against a great Dutch team
  • We celebrated our club’s birthday in Bansko with beer (a lots), cake and rugby
  • We went in Kazanlyk to meet the children from the Cedar Foundation, play some touch and do some motivational speaking

It’s been a lots of fun and we want to share all our photos and an unique drone video (thanks Copterhouse), so here they are –

You can find the results of all games HERE.

Cheers and don’t forget – Rugby is the Source!

AGM 2017 – What Happened?

mm-2017-memberships-fb

Hello everybody,

The Misfits family had its Annual General Meeting 2017 on 28th of January, Saturday. This year’s event was hosted at the КАСА БИРА bar, so we can enjoy a private place just for us and a lot of tasty Czech beers. As always the agenda for the day included many beers, a review of 2016, announcement of the important dates for the club in 2017, player awards and a special rugby raffle!

Thanks to the marvels of technology you can enjoy the nice and informative presentation by Misfits President, Stefan Doychev right here:

IMPORTANT: To book your dates and stay informed always check the Games Calendar for 2017. We will keep it up to date!

After an intense voting procedure, more than deservedly, Yancho Chanev was chosen as a Player of the Year for 2016. He won the Misfits votes thanks to the impressive barnstorming runs, his dedication and discipline, taking part in all games and practices during the year.

Strengthening the Chanevi domination, Dimitar Chanev was chosen as Best Newcomer for 2016. Mitacheto won the hearts of the Misfits family with strong performances on and off the field, promising great potential for rugby and… partying.

For a King of the Third Half 2016 was chosen no other player, but a prop. Yep, you guessed that right – Nencho Neikov won the prestigious award. Well deserved for the true drinking champion with almost two decades of practice.

Along with the voting for the awards we had a small presentation of the Committee Board of the club. We also did a little survey that will help us organize the club’s games and practices better.

IMPORTANT: Don’t forget to buy your Membership for 2017 in order to support the club. Contact a Committee Member to do so!

Here are the PHOTOS from the night.

Thanks to all players, supporters and friends of the Murphy’s Misfits!

Thanks to all committee members that make everything possible!

Let’s have a great 2017 full of rugby and fun! Cause we all know – Rugby is the Source!

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER – The Outcome

Misfits and friends,

last Sunday, on October 23rd was held the Murphy’s Misfits Charity Touch Rugby Tournament 2016. We all know well that KNOWLEDGE truly IS POWER, but we are even more powerful united.

Together we were able to raise 2460 lv. for the cause!

Thanks to your kind hearts we will make someone’s life better, without asking in return! The kids from The Cedar Foundation’s family-type houses in Kazanlak will receive better education, much needed for their future.
